I have created SMART goals that I would like to achieve during this course and this year. These goals are designed to help me stay motivated and develop my skills and knowledge in UX Design. It will support my practice and learning towards becoming a certified graduate in UXD Masters and my progression as a UX practitioner.
Although I don't have much experience in UX, I have basic experience using Figma in my work as a Senior Marketing Designer. I have implemented some interactions in the previous module; however, I would like to improve my skills in the software by learning how to do advanced interactions to create a delightful user experience.
Goal 1: I will practice sketching and wireframing using Balsamiq to generate many ideas to test designs for my prototype. I have not used Balsamiq before, but I would like to use different software tools to enhance my practice. Moreover, I want to focus on creating as many iterations and ideas as possible to analyse the best solution for my prototype. I will be using the research from existing companies and my competitors to compare and analyse their onboarding processes. I will commit to two hours each day for two weeks, starting from reading week (27th February – 13th March 2022).
Goal 2: I will improve my skills in Figma so that I can create advanced interactive features and implement animations in my prototype. This will help me become an expert in Figma, and I can use this skill when starting my journey as a UX Designer. I will do this by using online tutorials and courses. I will commit to 2-3 hours each week between weeks 7 and 12 (10th March – 27th April 2022) of this study block.
Goal 3: I will involve my target users throughout the design and development process by conducting multiple usability tests. This will help keep me on track with a product that successfully achieves the users’ needs and goals. Obtaining user feedback will provide valuable insights and enhance my development. I plan to do usability tests in stages with my sketches, wireframes and high-fidelity prototype and record and take notes on the tests. I will implement this between weeks 7 and 10 (10th March – 3rd April).
Some of my future goals include:
Goal 4: I will start to get experience within the UX department in my company to gain real industry experience and apply my learning to my practice. I will do this by shadowing UX team members, supporting them with projects, and attending meetings. I will do this by reaching out to other UX designers and formulating a plan of action. I hope to start this within the next few months until I graduate.
Goal 5: I want to build my portfolio to showcase my work in the UXD Masters in preparation to look for a job in the UX industry. Due to time constraints, I will focus on this project after this study block (9th May 2022). I will do this by reviewing and analysing existing portfolios and deciding on the best tool to host my projects. I will commit to a couple of hours each day to organise the content and showcase my work in a presentable and user-friendly design. I expect to take 3-4 weeks to build a strong portfolio and hope to finish it in time for the next module (30th May 2022).
