This week’s content is about creating a case study for the project.

One of the essential elements of a case study is articulating design decisions. This involves explaining why your proposed solution is the right solution so people can understand the reasons behind the designs. It also is more accepting and credible to show the research behind the decisions made. Case studies are created to showcase a person’s work for interviews or presentations.

Story telling in UX

The purpose of storytelling is to inspire, captivate and let the users unfold their imagination of the words. Storytelling in UX has become increasingly popular to describe product development from start to finish (Johansson 2014: 1). This helps the user understand the narrative better. The designer should ask eight key questions when creating a story (Adlin and Pruitt 2010).

  1. What is your goal in writing a story?

  2. Who is the persona of the story?

  3. What other characters are involved?

  4. What is the situation before the story begins?

  5. What is the goal of the main character?

  6. What triggers the action of the story?

  7. What happens during the story?

  8. What is the outcome of the story?

Building the case study

I started to research existing case studies using websites such as Behance, Dribble and Bestfolio. They presented a mix of beautiful projects showing the story of their work. I also used the recommended Adobe article that explained how to write a UX case study.

After reviewing examples and templates, I started to plan my case study by going through my blog posts and gathering the research from the activities I have completed in the past 12 weeks. It wasn't easy to condense the content as there were so many insights and results; however, I tried to minimise the findings by prioritising the most valuable information.

I also reflected on Adlin and Pruitt’s questions and made sure that everything was clear and understandable for the users to read. I will use this case study in my online portfolio, which I hope to build after this module.
